1. What is the IKWF?
The Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation (IKWF) began when Ken Draft, Illinois Wrestling Chairman from 1969 to 1971, appointed Ron Silverstein as Illinois Kids Director. Silverstein's task was to put together a statewide program for wrestlers eighth grade and younger.
During the administration of Ron Silverstein and Arch Richoz the concept of club based structure was formed. It was Illinois right in on the ground floor establishing this organization with Terry Weber of New Lenox being elected the first Secretary/Treasurer.
During the 1976-77 season, USA Wrestling initiated the national card and club registration systems. This was a direct result of a proposal made by IKWF President Larry Stonitsch.
2. Is the Sauk Valley Wrestling Club affiliated with any school?
NO! The Sauk Valley Wrestling club is open to all athletes reguardless of school affiliation. A majority of our wrestlers attend schools that do not have a wrestling program.
Newman Catholic Central High School and Rock Falls High School have donated their wrestling rooms for our club to practice in.
3. My child is in middle school can he/she wrestle for both Sauk Valley Wrestling Club (IKWF) and the middle school wrestling team (IESA - Illinois Elemetary School Association)?
No, As stated in IESA By-Laws 3.042: During the IESA season for a sport, students shall not practice or participate either as an individual or a team member in any non-school competition in the same sport. Examples of non-school competition include (but are not limited to) the following: organized leagues, park and recreation leagues, club teams, and youth sport leagues.
4. What are the registration fees used for?
The wrestler registration fees are used to purchase the IKWF competitor card and a team t-shirt for your wrestler.
The coach registration fees are used to purchase a IKWF coaches card. This card is required for all coaches to be mat side at a IKWF sanctioned tournament.
5. What exactly is an IKWF competitor/coaches card?
The IKWF competitor card is required to participate an USA Wrestling/IKWF sanctioned event. There is sports-accident supplemental benefits provided to USA Wrestling members who participate in limited non-sanctioned events.
The IKWF coaches card is required for all coaches who wish to coach matside at a USA Wrestling/IKWF sanctioned event. Membership benefits include secondary, non-duplicating sports accident insurance provided by an outside carrier. There are sports accident supplemental benefits provided to USA Wrestling members who participate in limited non-sanctioned events.
